IPR004405

Description

IPR004405 is a Translation release factor pelota.

Pelota (known as DOM34 in yeast) binds Hbs1, which is EF1-alpha-related subfamily GTPase, and is considered to play a crucial role in mRNA surveillance for protein synthesis [[cite:PUB00070081]]. It is involved in No-go decay (NGD) and non-stop decay (NSD) surveillance mechanisms that target mRNAs on which elongation complexes are stalled. Pelota/Hbs1 were shown to promote dissociation of stalled elongation complexes and release of intact peptidyl-tRNA in the presence of the ATP-binding cassette protein ABCE1 [[cite:PUB00070080]]. Pelota is conserved in eukaryotes and archaea [[cite:PUB00070083]].

Associated GO terms

GO predictions are based solely on the InterPro-to-GO mappings published by EMBL-EBI, which are in turn based on the mapping of predicted domains to the InterPro dataset. The InterPro-to-GO mapping was last updated on , while the GO metadata was last updated on .

GO term Namespace Name Definition Relationships
Biological process Nuclear-transcribed mRNA catabolic process, non-stop decay The chemical reactions and pathways resulting in the breakdown of the transcript body of a nuclear-transcribed mRNA that is lacking a stop codon.
Biological process Nuclear-transcribed mRNA catabolic process, no-go decay The chemical reactions and pathways resulting in the breakdown of the transcript body of a nuclear-transcribed mRNA with stalls in translation elongation.
Biological process RNA surveillance The set of processes involved in identifying and degrading defective or aberrant RNAs.
