IPR000738

Description

IPR000738 is a WHEP-TRS domain.

<p>A conserved domain of 46 amino acids, called WHEP-TRS has been shown [[cite:PUB00001214]] to exist in a number of higher eukaryote aminoacyl-transfer RNA synthetases. This domain is present one to six times in the several enzymes. There are three copies in mammalian multifunctional aminoacyl-tRNA synthetase in a region that separates the N-terminal glutamyl-tRNA synthetase domain from the C-terminal prolyl-tRNA synthetase domain, and six copies in the intercatalytic region of the Drosophila enzyme. The domain is found at the N-terminal extremity of the mammalian tryptophanyl-tRNA synthetase and histidyl-tRNA synthetase, and the mammalian, insect, nematode and plant glycyl-tRNA synthetases [[cite:PUB00002829]]. The structure of a human WHEP-TRS domain has been solved and consists of two helices arranged in a helix-turn-helix [[cite:PUB00013215]]. The WHEP-TRS domain may play a role in the association of tRNA-synthetases into multienzyme complexes [[cite:PUB00033807]].</p>

GO predictions are based solely on the InterPro-to-GO mappings published by EMBL-EBI, which are in turn based on the mapping of predicted domains to the InterPro dataset. The InterPro-to-GO mapping was last updated on , while the GO metadata was last updated on .

GO term Namespace Name Definition Relationships
Molecular function Aminoacyl-tRNA ligase activity Catalysis of the formation of aminoacyl-tRNA from ATP, amino acid, and tRNA with the release of diphosphate and AMP.
Molecular function ATP binding Interacting selectively and non-covalently with ATP, adenosine 5'-triphosphate, a universally important coenzyme and enzyme regulator.
Biological process TRNA aminoacylation for protein translation The synthesis of aminoacyl tRNA by the formation of an ester bond between the 3'-hydroxyl group of the most 3' adenosine of the tRNA and the alpha carboxylic acid group of an amino acid, to be used in ribosome-mediated polypeptide synthesis.
